We are delighted to be a community of academics from some of the finest universities in the world, collaborating on this groundbreaking outreach project.

University of Cambridge

The University of Cambridge Department of Engineering was founded in 1875 and is a centre of academic excellence. The Use Less Group is led by Julian Allwood FREng, Professor of Engineering and the Environment, and is pursuing world-leading research into the sustainable use of materials, energy and resources.

University of Sheffield

The city of Sheffield has been a centre for industry and manufacturing and this is reflected in the research carried out by the Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Faculties. 

The University is also home to the AMRC (Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre) which focuses on manufacturing techniques with industry partners. They also have a fantastic STEM outreach programme.

University of Bath

Bath is an established top 10 UK university with a reputation for research and teaching excellence. Within engineering, they specialise in mechanics, design and manufacturing and machines.

University of Manchester

Manchester is a Russell Group University with an international reputation in the areas of both teaching and research.  The School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering carries out innovative, industrially relevant and fundamental research in a wide range of engineering areas.

University of Nottingham

The University of Nottingham's position as a world-class university is confirmed by its ranking in the global league tables.  The Advanced Manufacturing Technology Research Group (AMT)  in the Faculty of Engineering conducts research at the forefront of manufacturing science and technology working in close cooperation with a number of strategic industrial partners and research centres worldwide. 

Cranfield University

Cranfield University, based near Milton Keynes, focuses on meeting the needs of industry, government and wider society through research into technology and data. They bring together the best of technological capability in engineering, manufacturing and science. 

University of Bristol

Bristol is a top 10 UK university, with a reputation for being at the cutting edge of global research. The Faculty of Engineering is adressing many of society's biggest challenges within the transport and energy sectors, healthcare infrastructure, materials and many other areas.

The University of Liverpool

As part of a research-led Russell Group University, the School of Engineering attracts substantial research funding and has active collaborative contacts with several major industries and universities in the UK and abroad.  The School of Engineering offers taught degree programmes at both BEng and MEng levels in aerospace, civil and mechanical engineering and industrial design. The school also offers MSc programmes in these fields as well as biomedical and nuclear engineering and manufacturing.

Birmingham is a world class university spannig a wide range of research and teaching excellence, including internationally leading research in Advanced Manufacture, focusing on High Value Manufacturing and the associated knowledge-based technologies – laser processing, intelligent robotics, micro engineering, nanotechnology, non-conventional machining, etc.
